DR. NAZNIN KARSAN

Training and experience

Dr. Naznin Karsan specializes in Plastic, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery of the face, head and neck. She possesses impressive credentials in medicine and cosmetic surgery, plus superior technical ability and extensive experience, which enables her to achieve superior results.

Education and training

Dr. Karsan graduated in 1997 from The University of Calgary Medical School after having obtained a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in physiology from the University of Toronto. Throughout medical school and residency, Dr. Karsan was actively involved in research in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Karsan completed her fellowship residency training in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at McGill University, during which she did research and elective studies in the field Facial Plastic Surgery (a subspecialty of Head and Neck Surgery). This was followed by a highly competitive post-residency fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at The University of Toronto, where she trained with world renowned surgeons in the field. The fellowship was accredited by The Canadian and American Boards of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

All of her medical training is fully accredited in both Canada and the United States.

Awards and recognitions

Dr. Karsan was the first female member of the Canadian Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

She is a member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a Diplomat of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a Diplomat of the American Board of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and a member of the Texas Medical Association and American Medical Associations.

Dr. Karsan has received multiple awards for her research and academic performance in the field of Facial Plastic Surgery at McGill University.

Teacher and presenter

Dr. Karsan is also a noted author and researcher in the field. She conducted research and written papers in areas including wound healing, rhinoplasty, facelift techniques and cleft lip and palate, often presenting her findings at national meetings.

She is also a frequent speaker and presenter. She presented a teaching session on the use of Restylane® in facial rejuvenation at the 2006 American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery conference, discussed the uses of Dermalive® at the 2005 Canadian Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She also gave a presentation on Rhinoplasty at the 2005 Canadian Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Area of specialization

Her repertoire of surgical procedures includes facelifts, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), forehead lift, neck lifts, liposuction of the neck and jowls, facial implants, nasal surgery (rhinoplasty), laser resurfacing, scar revision and otoplasty. She performs reconstructive surgery for skin malignancies, facial paralysis, congenital deformities and trauma. She also focuses on non-invasive procedures for facial rejuvenation including Botox® and injectable fillers.
