
What is hCG?
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone produced by women during pregnancy. hCG maximizes the function of the body’s control centers in the hypothalamus, one of which controls the movement and distribution of fat throughout the body.
What does hCG do?
hCG mobilizes abnormal or unwanted fat and releases it as a source of energy. hCG not only helps people lose body fat but also helps people lose fat around “problem areas” that are resistant to typical diets and exercise.
Who can take hCG?
hCG is safe and effective for men and women at any age after puberty. hCG is not a sex hormone and does not affect the ovaries but can increase testosterone production in men.
How much weight can be lost?
With the hCG assisted weight loss program, patients typically lose one pound of abnormal fat per day, occasionally more. Patients may remain on the program for 40 days. If target weight loss is not reached within 40 days, patients may repeat the program after a 6 week “break.”

What is the hCG assisted weight loss program?
The hCG assisted weight loss program combines a low calorie diet with pain-free, subcutaneous injections of hCG. Normally, if someone were to start a low calorie diet, he or she would experience hunger, cravings, fatigue, feel miserable, lose structural fat and muscle mass.
Loss of structural fat is a problem because it provides a layer of cushioning to the body, most importantly around vital organs, soles of the feet and palms of the hands. Loss of muscle mass is equally problematic when dieting and can give people a gaunt, unhealthy look. Loss of muscle mass also reduces the body’s caloric requirements, negating effectiveness of the low calorie diet and reducing overall weight loss.
hCG solves both of these problems by turning the body onto abnormal or unwanted “depot” fat, enabling rapid loss of body fat while retaining muscle mass and structural fat. Reducing abnormal fat is also beneficial in terms of overall health since it is responsible for the onset of a wide variety of chronic diseases.
Do the injections hurt?
The short answer is No. The injections are administered with a micro-sized Insulin syringe. Physicians will instruct patients how to perform the injections properly. Injections can be administered anywhere on the body with the best areas being the front of the thighs and stomach.
So how does the program work?
Patients administer hCG injections and consume a high calorie, high fat diet for the first two days of the program. Skipping this step significantly reduces the total amount of weight lost during the program. On the morning of day #3, the low calorie diet begins.
For Breakfast
One serving of fruit – apple, orange, one-half grapefruit or handful of strawberries.
For Lunch & Dinner
One serving of meat – 100 grams (pre-cooked) veal, lean beef, chicken breast, venison, fresh white fish, lobster, crab, shrimp or tuna (packed in spring water). All visible fat must be trimmed or removed. Eggs are not allowed as a substitute. One serving of vegetables – spinach, tomatoes, celery, beet-greens, chard, chicory, lettuce, onions, red radishes, cucumbers asparagus or cabbage. One serving of fruit – apple, orange, one-half grapefruit, or handful of strawberries. One Melba toast or breadstick.
Snacks
The fruit portion from lunch or dinner may be eaten as a snack between meals.
Spices & Seasonings
Salt, pepper, vinegar, mustard powder, garlic powder (not salt), sweet basil, parsley, thyme, marjoram and lemon juice.
Beverages
Drink 60 – 80 ounces of water daily (about 10 glasses). Other beverages include coffee (black) and tea. No diet drinks are permitted as they contain artificial sweeteners that are unhealthy and inhibit weight loss.
Other Notes
If possible, patients should eat organic foods in order to avoid undesired hormones and pesticides that may slow weight loss. Patients should weigh themselves each morning to monitor progress.
Diet Tips
Want to lose 2 or 3 pounds per day while on the hCG assisted weight loss program? Here are a few tips that will help guarantee success!
- Take a multivitamin. Learn about Optimal Health’s supplements here.
- Drink plenty of water to keep the system running at its best.
- Make sure to get the recommended 30 grams of fiber per day either through high fiber foods or supplement beverages, powders or capsules.
- If possible, eat organic foods in order to avoid undesired hormones or pesticides that may slow weight loss.
- It’s rare, but some individuals may experience constipation. A gentle laxative tea is recommended. Also, try increasing increase daily water consumption and if not exercising, 30 inutes of walking.
- Get on the scale every morning. Monitoring progress can be a great motivator and will and can greatly help in reaching target weight loss.
- If remaining on the program for a full 40 days, it’s important to continue the 500 calorie diet for three days following completion of hCG therapy. After three days, it’s recommended to increase caloric intake to 2,200 – 3,000 calories (depending on age, sex, and activity level), consuming mostly lean proteins (eggs are allowed), vegetables and fruits and avoiding all convenience foods, breads, pastas, potatoes and other low quality carbohydrates. Maintaining this type of diet is very important as it enables restoration of optimal metabolic rate. Once restored, nearly every patient will be able to maintain their new weight with much less effort.

Injection Tips
Note: The following steps are meant as general guidelines – always consult with your physician.
- Clean the area with an alcohol swab in a circular motion, from center out.
- Allow the alcohol to air dry – this will ease discomfort of the injection.
- Gently pinch the skin and insert the syringe.
- Pull back on the syringe slightly to check for blood. If there is blood in the syringe, simply reinsert the needle at another location.
- Inject the medication quickly or slowly – whichever is more comfortable.
- It is common to see a small amount of bleeding at the injection site. Direct pressure will stop the bleeding and prevent bruising of the skin.
- Slight swelling, redness, burning, or itching is common and should subside shortly.
